Empowering Youth through Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training

The Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) Training for Youth was conducted on April 27–29, 2026, at Chalet Hotel in Baguio City. The training highlighted the importance of empowering the youth by transforming them from a traditionally vulnerable sector into proactive leaders and frontline responders. By leveraging their energy, digital literacy, and influence within their households and communities, the participants gained a deeper understanding of how to bridge the gap between official disaster protocols and their implementation at the local level.

Furthermore, the training strengthened long-term community resilience by instilling safety awareness and preparedness among the participants. It emphasized that disaster preparedness should not be treated as a temporary effort, but rather as a sustainable cultural value that can reduce dependence on external aid during times of crisis.

The activity also encouraged collaboration among school and youth leaders. Participants engaged in the creation of project proposals and action plans related to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM). Discussions focused on Republic Act No. 10121 and other local and international DRRM-related topics. The training equipped students with the skills and competencies needed in CBDRRM, making them valuable assets during emergencies and disasters within their communities.

Moreover, the participants increased their knowledge and awareness of DRRM, including its relationship with climate change. They also improved their ability to plan, organize, and implement DRRM activities while strengthening teamwork and collaboration among organizers and participants.
