On July 16–17, 2026, the Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) Research Ethics Committee (REC) successfully held the Institutional Basic Research Ethics Training (iBRET) at the Board Room for CCDC REC members, Research Coordinators, and selected Thesis Advisers. The training was facilitated by resource speakers from the Cordillera Regional Health Research and Development Consortium – Research Ethics Committee (CRHRDC REC), who are authorized by the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) to conduct the program.
The activity emphasized the importance of protecting the rights, safety, and welfare of research participants by promoting the fundamental principles of research ethics. Participants were oriented on ethical standards and the roles and responsibilities of researchers, thesis advisers, and Research Ethics Committee members in ensuring that research involving human participants is conducted responsibly and in accordance with national and international ethical guidelines.
The training also served as a significant step in strengthening the institutional capacity of the CCDC Research Ethics Committee. It supported the committee’s preparations for its planned application for PHREB Level 1 Accreditation by ensuring that REC members met the required training qualifications and by enhancing the knowledge and competencies of Research Coordinators and Thesis Advisers in the ethical review process.
The Institutional Basic Research Ethics Training (iBRET) was successfully conducted and achieved its objectives of equipping participants with essential knowledge and skills in research ethics, promoting ethical research practices, and reinforcing the institution’s commitment to responsible research. The activity further demonstrated CCDC’s dedication to maintaining high ethical standards in research and advancing its goal of obtaining PHREB Level 1 Accreditation.
