CTE PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS UNDERTAKE TRAINING PROGRAM ON FIRST AID PRACTICES

Pre-service teachers of the College of Teacher Education (CTE) attended a first-aid training session on emergency response and basic first-aid support on August 15, 2026, from 8:30 in the morning to 12:30 noon, in rooms T1 and T2 on the 4th floor of the Arang Building.

The session aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to use first aid to manage real-life emergencies they may encounter during their off-campus deployment.

The Dean of CTE, Ma’am Juvy O. Baso, led the session and introduced the facilitators. Sir Reynaldo Samson, a faculty member of the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) and serves as a coach, trainer, and active personnel for CCDC in disaster preparedness and campus safety and Sir Liu Jeff Cerilo, a martial arts coach and sports trainer at CCDC.

The session was divided into three parts: The first covered an introduction to first aid and emergency response principles. Both facilitators discussed the importance of first aid awareness, noting that accidents can be unexpected. Sir Samson shared an experience from responding to an emergency, saying that instead of panicking, he gradually focused on providing first aid to the injured personnel.

The second part covered basic first aid procedures, including wound care, bleeding control, burns, fractures, and sprains. Sir Samson together with Sir Cerilo demonstrated how to fold a triangular bandage to support, secure, and protect injured body parts, and how to tie a square knot, a technique used to securely fasten a bandage without slipping. Each student repeatedly practiced the activity as they mastered tying the square knot. The facilitator guided students in applying bandages to each part of the body, especially the upper and lower body.

The third part covered Basic Life Support (BLS), and CPR responses. Facilitators walked through the basic steps to take before administering first aid, including checking the safety of the scene, assessing the victim’s condition, and calling for help, before any actual first aid action.
They also emphasized the importance of counting and timing during CPR. Following the discussion, students participated in hands-
on practice, applying the bandaging and CPR techniques they had learned using training dummies.

The session concluded with the awarding of certificates. Dean Juvy O. Baso, together with Sir Jaypee D. Camolo, a BTLED Program Coordinator, presented certificates to facilitators Sir Samson and Sir Cerilo in recognition of their contribution to the training. Certificates of participation were also given to the CTE pre-service teachers who attended the session.
