Dialogue with Social Work Students: Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice

A total of 131 Social Work students from Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC), accompanied by faculty members Ms. Kimberlyn M. Valdez (CSW Program Coordinator) and Ms. Aelline G. Carame (CSW Faculty), actively participated in the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) Dialogue with Social Work Students held on September 2, 2025, at Crown Legacy Hotel, Baguio City.

The CCDC contingent—comprising 13 first-year, 56 second-year, 52 third-year, and 10 fourth-year students—joined peers from other institutions in the Cordillera Administrative Region for an enriching exchange of insights on social work practice across various sectors. The event featured key resource speakers from the Professional Regulatory Board for Social Workers, DSWD, LGUs, medical institutions, and the judiciary, highlighting the evolving roles of social workers in policy, community, and institutional settings.

Notably, CCDC first-year student Danielle Austine Denise E. Caasi shared her reflections during the plenary, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the early challenges and aspirations of future social workers.

The dialogue underscored the importance of bridging academic instruction with real-world practice, aligning with CCDC’s commitment to culturally grounded, equity-driven social work education.
