« 1 of 9 »

As mental health challenges persist in the Philippines despite progress and the 2018 Mental Health Law. Teen suicide risk factors include depression, low self-esteem, stress, isolation, bullying, substance abuse, peer pressure, and struggles with sexual orientation.

The Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) is working together to create a space where everyone feels valued, supported, and safe through the “Changing the Narrative on Suicide: Start the Conversation.”

In partnership with ELEVATE, a sharing and facilitation session was conducted to deepen the understanding of mental health and suicide prevention. The discussion focused on the role of family members and friends in providing support, the importance of open communication, and recognizing signs that may indicate emotional distress.

A highlight of the event was the testimony shared by Ms. Lovelyn B. Bomowey, Ms. Benguet, and a mental health advocate, who courageously spoke about her experiences and overcoming mental health struggles.

Anchored on the 2024-2026 World Suicide Prevention Day theme, “Changing the Narrative on Suicide,” this initiative aims to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage meaningful conversations that can save lives.

The event, organized by the CCDC Guidance Department, saw an overwhelming response, with 1,368 students and 15 faculty and staff participating. The sessions were conducted in two batches, on September 28 and October 2, 2024.
