CCDC Social Work Students Complete Internship Preparatory Program

The Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) program of Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) successfully conducted its Session 3: Internship Preparatory Program for the 4th Year Students on August 11–12, 2025 at the Board Room, JMM Building. This two-day training was facilitated by the La Trinidad Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), whose expertise and dedication ensured a comprehensive and hands-on learning experience for the student interns.

College of Social Work, guided by CHED Memo Order of CMO 39, s 2017 mandate a comprehensive approach to ensuring the preparedness of students interns as they transition from classroom theory to real-world practice through their internships.

One of the key mandates on Internship is Student Well-Being and Protection: CMO 39 s. 2017 emphasizes student safety, well-being, and rights during internship. It stipulates reasonable work hours, protections against discrimination and harassment, adequate health and insurance coverage, access to support services, and clear protocols for grievance or concerns.

In 2025, the strong tagline for Basic Life Support in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is “Your Lifeline, Your First Step”. This tagline emphasizes both the regional focus (“CAR”) and the essential nature of BLS as the initial response (“Lifeline”, “First Step”). It also subtly highlights the idea of empowerment through knowledge and action.

Integrating Basic Life Support into the BSSW Internship/Practicum Preparatory Program reflects the discipline’s deep commitment to client welfare and professional safety. As future social workers, the ability to respond to emergency situations is not only a valuable skill but also a moral responsibility—ensuring that they can provide immediate, life-saving assistance when needed.

The training covered essential BLS principles, including CPR for adults, children, and infants, and vital first-response protocols during emergencies such as choking, cardiac arrest, and respiratory distress. Participants were given the opportunity to practice these techniques through guided, hands-on sessions, building both their technical competence and their confidence in applying these skills in real-life situations.

By incorporating BLS into the preparatory program, CCDC equips its social work interns with a holistic skill set—one that goes beyond psychosocial interventions and extends to safeguarding physical well-being. This not only aligns with social work’s ethical mandate to protect and promote human life but also strengthens the readiness of interns to face diverse, real-world challenges in the field.

CCDC extends its gratitude to the La Trinidad BFP for their invaluable service and dedication in training the next generation of social workers. The BLS session marks another significant milestone in preparing students to serve communities with both compassion and competence.
