CCDC Integrates Environmental Stewardship into Campus Development and Planning

La Trinidad, Benguet — Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) has continued to embed environmental considerations into its campus planning and development processes, reflecting a broader institutional commitment to sustainability that aligns with SDG 15 (Life on Land). The College treats the integration of local biodiversity into planning and development as a continuous process — one that is reviewed, strengthened, and expanded over time rather than treated as a one-time initiative.

In December 2025, CCDC was recognized among the world’s green universities in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing 56th in the Philippines and 1,089th globally out of 1,745 institutions. The ranking assessed CCDC across 58 indicators in 6 criteria related to environmental commitment, recognizing green innovations such as solar power installation, water catchment reservoirs, ecological awareness in academic activities, and strict waste management protocols. These initiatives demonstrate that environmental considerations are being integrated into campus infrastructure and operations.

CCDC’s environmental standards also extend to suppliers, contractors, and partners engaged in construction and maintenance activities. The college requires that outsourced contractors follow environmental guidelines and do not contribute to improper waste handling or pollution, ensuring that campus development projects are carried out with environmental responsibility.

The college’s Institutional Sustainability Report for AY 2023–2024 further articulates plans to “promote biodiversity conservation” and strengthen initiatives under SDG 15, alongside expanding renewable energy projects and enhancing sustainability research and monitoring. CCDC’s partnership with the Philippine Earth Justice Center also supports the protection and enforcement of environmental laws in local communities.

CCDC emphasizes that embedding local biodiversity into planning and development is an ongoing and continuous process. The College commits to regularly reviewing its planning protocols, incorporating biodiversity considerations into future construction and infrastructure projects, and strengthening its environmental governance as part of its long-term sustainability journey. This ensures that the institution’s physical growth remains aligned with its commitment to Life on Land — not as a single milestone, but as a sustained, evolving practice.
