CCDC Enforces Strict Plastic Waste Reduction Policy Across Campus and Supply Chain

La Trinidad, Benguet — Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) has reinforced its commitment to land-sensitive waste disposal through the strict enforcement of its policy banning single-use plastics and Styrofoam, extending the directive to all stakeholders both within and beyond the campus.

The policy is anchored on College Memorandum No. 4, s. 2023, which prohibits the use, sale, and entry of single-use plastics and Styrofoam within the campus. The directive explicitly covers canteen concessionaires, service agencies, facility lessees, parents, and guests, ensuring that the ban applies to all campus users. Violations are met with escalating penalties — from verbal warnings to contract termination and denial of campus access.

In 2025, CCDC further strengthened implementation by extending its waste management and eco-friendly standards to suppliers, contractors, and partner agencies. The college launched an Information Drive Workplan that included orientations and consultations with deans, office heads, concessionaires, project employees, and lessees to ensure full compliance and awareness across all campus-related operations.

The policy forms part of CCDC’s broader green campus initiatives. In December 2025, the college was recognized in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing 56th in the Philippines and 1,089th globally out of 1,745 institutions. The ranking cited CCDC’s “strictly banning single-use plastics” as one of its key green innovations, alongside solar power installation, water catchment reservoirs, and engagement with accredited waste disposal entities.

CCDC’s waste tracking and management program further supports plastic reduction by monitoring waste generation, segregation, and disposal across all departments. The institution’s 2024 Self-Monitoring Reports under RA 6969 demonstrated full compliance with DENR requirements, with recycling and reduction efforts expanded yearly in line with campus sustainability goals.

By eliminating single-use plastics at the source and embedding environmental responsibility into procurement and partnerships, CCDC directly reduces land pollution and supports the health of terrestrial ecosystems — aligning with SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
