CCDC and PASWI–Benguet Chapter Formalize Partnership Through Ceremonial MOU Signing

A meaningful milestone was marked today as Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC) and the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. (PASWI) – Benguet Chapter formally sealed their partnership through a Ceremonial Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing.

The activity brought together academic leaders, professional social workers, and advisers in a shared commitment to strengthen collaboration between the academe and the professional field of social work.

A Partnership Rooted in Purpose

The program opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Sherry Junette M. Tagle, PhD, President of CCDC. In her message, she emphasized that this partnership goes beyond institutional collaboration but also for the students, who are the end beneficiaries of this engagement.

She highlighted that learning does not stop within the four walls of the classroom. Growth continues as long as we breathe, and collaboration plays a vital role in sustaining that growth. Through this partnership, students and faculty will gain stronger exposure to professional practice, ethical standards, and real-world social work engagements.

Understanding the Commitment

The ceremonial reading of the MOU outlined the responsibilities of both parties, reflecting a shared vision for professional excellence and ethical practice.

CCDC commits to:

  • Integrate student exposure to PASWI programs and professional practice orientations where academically appropriate;
  • Provide venue support and logistical coordination for approved joint activities;
  • Designate a focal person from the College of Social Work for coordination;
  • Nominate qualified faculty, students, and graduates for PASWI-led CPD activities and committees; and
  • Ensure ethical conduct and compliance with policies in research and community activities.
PASWI–Benguet Chapter commits to:

  • Provide technical guidance on professional standards and development topics;
  • Endorse qualified members to serve as resource speakers and trainers;
  • Encourage participation of its members in research, advocacy, and community projects; and
  • Assist in linking CCDC with national and international social work networks.

The formal signing of the MOU was witnessed by key signatories from both institutions, symbolizing unity, trust, and a shared commitment to advancing the social work profession.

As an alumnus of CCDC, having earned his Bachelor of Social Work degree and later completing his Juris Doctor, his presence made the ceremony even more meaningful. His journey stands as a testament to the growth and possibilities that begin within the institution.

He also shared that PASWI–Benguet Chapter is newly established, composed of professionals from diverse fields such as medical settings, academe, NGOs, NACC, and other practice areas. This diversity, he emphasized, creates wider opportunities for collaboration, learning, and professional growth. The profession of social work continues to expand, and through unity, it grows stronger.

Words of Wisdom from PASWI-Benguet Chapter Advisers

Additional insights were shared by the chapter advisers.

Atty. Mary Inglay Capuyan-Fokno reminded everyone of the importance of ingrained humaneness in social work practice. She encouraged students and professionals alike to sharpen their minds, remain sensitive to signs of abuse, and embrace forgiveness — forgiving oneself and others as part of personal and professional growth.

Meanwhile, Ms. Maria “Marilou” Lourdes R. Aurelio emphasized that “Social Work is not just a profession — it is a mission.” In a light yet profound remark, she noted that no social worker becomes rich in monetary terms through this profession but the richness lies in service, impact, and the lives transformed through compassion and dedication.

Moving Forward Together

The ceremonial MOU signing between CCDC and PASWI–Benguet Chapter is more than a formal agreement. It represents a shared responsibility to nurture future social workers, uphold ethical practice, and strengthen professional development pathways.

For the students, this partnership opens doors. For the faculty and practitioners, it strengthens collaboration. For the profession, it builds unity.

Indeed, today’s event was not just about signing a document — it was about affirming a mission: to continue serving with competence, integrity, and heart.
