Empowering Parents, Protecting Futures: Strong Homes, Safe Children

The Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC), through the Guidance and Counseling Office, successfully conducted a parent-enrichment seminar on December 12, 2025 at Iyaman Hall, bringing elementary parents together for the timely program, “Guardians of Today’s Child: Understanding Their World, Protecting Their Future.” Distinguished guest speakers—Ma’am Agnes Kryza H. Sito, Department Chairperson of the Psychology Program at BSU, and Ma’am Chita B. Habon, CCDC Guidance Counselor and Director of Children and Family Services Incorporated—led the meaningful discussions. The seminar strengthened CCDC’s commitment to promoting family well-being, child protection, and the global Sustainable Development Goals.

The first session, “Caring for the Carers: Prioritizing Parent Well-Being for Better Parenting,” focused on the essential yet often neglected truth that a parent’s emotional and mental health deeply influences a child’s development. Ma’am Sito emphasized how stress, fatigue, and burnout can affect a parent’s patience, communication, and overall connection with their child. She encouraged parents to recognize their own needs and practice healthy coping strategies, reminding them that caring for themselves is not a luxury but a vital foundation for raising emotionally secure and resilient children.

The second session, “Cyber Guardians: Parents as Protectors in the Digital Age,” addressed the growing concerns surrounding OSAEC and CSAEM. With clarity and compassion, Ma’am Habon guided parents in understanding the seriousness of these threats and offered practical ways to protect children online—through open communication, close supervision, strengthened values, and awareness of reporting mechanisms. The seminar concluded with a renewed sense of partnership among parents, educators, and the community, affirming that safeguarding children’s rights and well-being begins with informed, empowered, and proactive families.
