CCDC Basic Education Department Observes Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

In celebration of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Cordillera Career Development College – Basic Education Department, through the Guidance and Counseling Office, organized a series of heartfelt and empowering activities across all grade levels to promote mental health awareness and remind everyone that feelings are real, help is here, and you matter.

With the theme “Changing the Narrative of Suicide: Living with Meaning, Holding On, Moving Forward,” each department carried out programs designed to inspire hope, self-awareness, and compassion among students.

The Senior High School Department opened the observance on September 15, 2025, at the Tupay-ya Gym, highlighted by a moving talk from Mr. Junne Raye Malinao, who encouraged students to break the stigma surrounding mental health and to find strength amid life’s struggles. This was followed by an inspiring testimony from Ms. Lovely Bomowey, Miss Benguet 2024 and a spoken word poetry contest that showcased students’ creativity and powerful messages of courage and hope.

The Junior and Middle High School Department continued the celebration on September 25, 2025, at the Tupay-ya Gym, featuring an uplifting message from Mr. Jereed Lou Tido, Mr. Cordillera 2025 and an engaging discussion led by Ms. Jasmin Evasco, who emphasized discovering one’s “why” — the purpose that keeps us holding on and moving forward despite challenges.

Rounding off the observance, the Elementary Department held its program on September 29, 2025, at the Senior High Hall with the theme “You Matter: Feelings Are Real, Help Is Here.” Facilitated by Ms. Kaiza Caballero, the young learners joined interactive activities such as My Journal and My Hand Network, which encouraged self-expression and identifying trusted adults

for support. The Poster and Slogan-Making Contest also allowed students to creatively express kindness, empathy, and hope through art.

Through these meaningful activities, the CCDC Basic Education Department reaffirmed its commitment to fostering not only academic growth but also emotional resilience and compassion among students — reminding everyone that every feeling is valid, every voice matters, and every life holds meaning.
