CCDC Strengthens Internationalization Through U.S.-Sponsored Faculty Training Programs

In line with Cordillera Career Development College’s (CCDC) vision of becoming a center of quality education for culturally diverse and global learners, and in support of its mission to deliver holistic, accessible, and inclusive learning experiences, the institution continues to advance its internationalization efforts. These initiatives also contribute to the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

As part of this thrust, CCDC faculty are actively engaging in globally recognized professional development programs. Recently, the College of Teacher Education (CTE)–English faculty member Dina P. Amdos successfully qualified for and completed prestigious U.S.-sponsored trainings designed to enhance global teaching competencies.

From September 25–28, 2025, Ms. Amdos represented CCDC in the intensive teacher training program “The Educator’s Edge: Mastering Literacy, AI, and Critical Thought” organized by the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, held in Mactan, Cebu. The program re-established the foundations of critical literacy while integrating artificial intelligence (AI) in pedagogy and administrative work. Session topics included critical reading, AI for instructional accessibility and administrative efficiency, responsible digital citizenship, and designing integrated lessons—equipping participants with practical strategies to strengthen students’ higher-order thinking skills and digital responsibility.

The training was facilitated by English Language Fellows Laura Roach (Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila), Maryann Miller (Southern Leyte State University), and Michael Schapiro (Mariano Marcos State University), with support from the RELO team under the leadership of Jeffrey McIlvenna.

In addition, CCDC further expanded its international exposure through Ms. Amdos’ successful completion of the Online Professional English Network’s (OPEN) Professional Development for Teacher Trainers MOOC, developed by Arizona State University and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The course, conducted from July 21 to September 1, 2025, trained educators worldwide on designing, implementing, and evaluating impactful teacher training workshops, emphasizing the Teach–Reflect–Change model.

These opportunities highlight CCDC’s institutional commitment to continuous faculty development, global collaboration, and pedagogical innovation. By investing in international training for its faculty members, the college enhances academic expertise, raises educational standards, and aligns its practices with international benchmarks.
