Building Strength and Readiness: Physical Fitness Test for Criminology Interns

On March 25, 2026, at the Benguet Sports Complex, Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet, CP1 interns participated in the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) as part of their Criminology Practicum. The activity was designed to assess the interns’ physical readiness in relation to the demanding requirements of law enforcement and other criminology-related careers.

The Physical Fitness Test holds significant importance for criminology interns as it directly reflects the physical demands of their future profession. Careers in law enforcement require strength, endurance, agility, and stamina, as officers are often expected to pursue suspects, manage high-pressure situations, and perform extended duties. In this regard, the PFT serves not only as an assessment of current physical capability but also as a developmental tool that fosters discipline, self-awareness, and a strong commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle—qualities essential for long-term professional success.

The activity commenced with an assembly and briefing, followed by the taking of blood pressure among CP1 interns, facilitated by nursing students who served as medics with the assistance of clinic staff. Subsequently, warm-up exercises were conducted by CP1 officers to ensure that participants were physically prepared before proceeding to the actual Physical Fitness Test.

Through the activity, interns were able to evaluate their physical fitness levels, establish baseline data for goal setting, and enhance their movement competencies. The experience enabled them to identify both their strengths and areas for improvement while also reinforcing the understanding that effective physical performance requires not only strength and endurance but also mental alertness, focus, and discipline.

In conclusion, the CP1 interns recognized the importance of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle and gained valuable insights into how physical fitness plays a vital role in preparing them for their future responsibilities as law enforcement professionals.
